Aquatic Safety
Providing you and your family a safe and fun experience is our primary responsibility.
To accomplish this, we have studied the best practices of Aquatic Facilities across the nation; state, local and insurance regulations; and Y-USA Guidelines and established policies that are designed to minimize the risks of the five most frequent causes of accidental death and injury in an aquatic environment, while creating an environment where individuals and families can engage in actives that “Help people reach their God-given potential in Spirit, Mind and Body.
Five Most Frequent Causes of Accidents in Pools
- Inability to swim.
- Collisions. (i.e. running, diving, sliding, rough play)
- Shallow Water Blackout. (extended repetitive breath holding)
- Heat Exhaustion/Stroke.
- Heart Attack.
Swimmer Identification Policy for Youth
Age 11 and under
All children 11 and under participating in recreational and group swim times are required to follow the YMCA Swimmer Identification Policy.
· Parents are responsible for knowing and enforcing pool rules and ID Policies.
· All swimmers age 11 and under must wear an ID band around their neck prior to entering the water.
· Youth swim tests will be given during pool breaks or at the lifeguard’s discretion. (Swimmers may enter the water as red level only until the lifeguard is able to give the test.)
· Once a swim test has been given the swimmer will receive their own ID Band. Replacements cost $1.00 at the front desk.
· All red, yellow youth and swimmers under age 8 must be accompanied by an actively supervising adult within arms reach of the swimmer.
· All green level swimmers age 8 to 11 must be signed in with the lifeguard by a guardian.
· All swimmers must follow the guidelines for their skill level.
· Failure to follow the Youth Swimmer ID Policy or the pool rules may result in loss of privileges
