Inclement Weather Plan
Whenever possible, our child care programs continue to operate. In the event that the Wilkes County Schools alter their regular class schedule,

please refer to the following procedures.
School Delays
If school openings are delayed for whatever reason; the YMCA After-School program does NOT provide care before-school care.

Early Dismissals
After School Child Care
If school is dismissed early because of snow or ice, the after school child care will be offered at the YMCA until 6:00 p.m. Parents are responsible for getting their child or children to the YMCA. To ensure your child’s safety, we will not transport children on these days. Staff will report directly to the YMCA to be available to provide care for those who have dropped off children following the early dismissal. No YMCA staff will be on site to provide care at a school where the children have been dismissed early. The only exception to this would be if school was dismissed 30 minutes prior to scheduled dismissal. Our staff would already be on location therefore making it unnecessary to take them to the YMCA.

There is no additional fee for care on these days.
Snow Days
After School Child Care
If schools are closed for the entire day, the YMCA offers a child care program at the Wilkes Family YMCA from 6:30 AM until 6:00 PM. Please take them to the far side of the gym for sign-in and drop-off. There is no additional fee for these days. Children should bring a lunch and drink (that does not require refrigeration or heating). Children should bring a  swimsuit and towel only if it is a Wednesday or a Friday.
*All of the above assumes safe travel conditions. In the event of extreme weather, power outages or YMCA Facility closures or delayed openings, child care program schedules may be altered or cancelled.
